Assessing youth at risk in your school

Questions?

Today, the health, attitudes and behaviour of young people is critically linked to how successfully they transition from school to further education, training or employment.

To ensure the availability of accurate and current information on student’s health and attitudes at your school, The Career and Transition Survey is available now.

The survey provides you with the critical data you need to monitor student’s attitudes about school and their future. The information will support you to develop and implement policies and programs that promote positive transitions, life skills and healthy decision-making.

Purposes of the survey

  • Determine the prevalence of at risk behaviours and attitudes
  • Assess which students are most at risk
  • Assess whether risk increases, decreases, or remains the same over time

A community organisation, Lifehouse Project, ran a prevention and early intervention program (Directions), working with Year 10 students at risk of early school leaving.

The Career & Transition Survey was a key tool in identifying those students who participated.

The final report on that program can be downloaded here Directions Report

The survey was originally developed to identify young people who would most benefit from The PLAN book

Here are a few programs that Ruth has written that enable you to work effectively with young people at risk.
